Constable A. C. White, formerly of Ashburton, and now of Otautau, is spending portion of his annual holiday in Ashburton.
Mr R. Somerville, of the Ashburton Post Office staff, lias been transferred to Rangiora. Members of the staff subscribed to make a presentation to him.
Mr G. J. Bird, of Ohertsey, who is on a visit to England, was at latest advice staying with his parents at Chingford, Essex.
Appointments of teachers at the meeting of the Canterbury Education Board yesterday were as follow;—Fairton, Mr C. C. Watkins; Ruapuna, Mr E. H. Bastion; Willow by, Air J. A. Hodges.
Notification of the appointment of Alessrs Bernard McNamara and William John Lee as members of the South Rakaia Road Board, in place of the late Alessrs Louis de la Oherois Cordner and John AlcLean, appears in the New Zealand “Gazette.”
The Rev. H. S. Conway, of Auckland (secretary of the China Inland Mission), will arrive in Ashburton this evening. He will preach at the Baring Square Methodist Church to-morrow morning, and in the evening he will conduct the service at the Baptist Church.
