FIFTY-MILE PROFESSIONAL TITLE. WON BY L. THOMAS. DUNEDIN, Sept. 15. The 50-mile professional cycling championship of New Zealand was held in fine weather yesterday. Although no North Islanders were present, a held of 30 faced the starter, and included the pick of the riders in the South Island. The first man home was J. Elliott (Georgetown),, off the 25min. mark, and lie was followed by his brothem, G. Elliott, off 19min. The championship and fastest time were secured by L. Thomas (Christchurch). Results:—*

WIN FOR F. J. GROSE. INVERCARGILL, Sept. 15. After riding strongly over the whole course, F. J. Grose (Christchurch) became South Island 50-mile road champion and registered fastest time in the race conducted by the Invercargill Amateur Cycling Club yesterday. His time was 2hr 17min 55 3-ssee. won by a fifth of a second from I. Taylor (Christchurch), who was a fifth of a second ahead of W. Frame (Invercargill). J. Humphries (Invercargill), oft the limit mark of 19miu, won the handicap race. Over the first half of tho race the riders had the benefit of a stilt westerlv breeze, which they had to face all the way back from Edendale.
