Among the discussions at the Pacific Health Conference, which- is being held in Sydney, Dr. G. A. Hoydon directed attention to the almost entire absence of tuberculosis among the natives in the inland areas of New Guinea, but said that stain tests had revealed that they were extremely suispeetible to the disease and succumbed quickly when infected owing to their sleeping in unhealthy surroundings and the lack of natural resistance. The ■ presence of tuberculosis in the coastal regions was most pronounced and was the third greatest cause of dealth. Dr. W. Strong, oii Papua, said that attempts were being made to build up the resistance of natives of Papua, where the Administration was issuing cod liver oil free to every native who applied for it. The conference concludes to-day.
