The Mount Cook sports meeting was commenced yesterday in perfect weather. The course for the cross-country championship proved strenuous, but snow conditions were ideal. Results:
Cross-country Championship, of 41miles—J. Orombie (Aorangi), 35min 30seo, 1; S. M. Watson (Aorangi), 35 min 49sec, 2; J. Barron (Tasman), 36 min 56see. A. Wigley ran for the Tasman Club for points only, finishing first in 32min 54sec.
Women’s Cross-country Championship, of two miles—Mrs A. Edwards (Christchurch), 21min 39seo, 1; Miss D. Mackie (Aorangi), 23min 20sec, 2, Miss von Zedlitz, 28min 50sec, 3. Downhill Championship, from top of Ball Pass, 2j miles, descent 2500 feet— S. M. Watson (Aorangi), smin 25sec, 1; H. Tilbury (Ruapehu), 7min, 2; J. Crombie (Aorangi), Bmin 15sec, 3. The Wigley brothers ran for the Tasman Club for points only, A. Wigley finishing first in 3min 48sec, without a fall, and H. Wigley second in 4mm, also without a fall. Women’s Downhill Championship, H miles, descent 1200 feet —Mrs H. Richards (Windwhistle), 3min, 1; Mrs A. B. Edwards (Christchurch), 3min 20 sec, 2, Miss B. Brown (Christchurch), Bmin ssec, 3.
