BOAT CAPSIZES IN HARBOUR.

A schoolboy yarned McKay • was drowned at Evans Bay this morning when a flat-bottomed boat capsized in a rough sea. Two other schoolboys, Arthur Morrison, aged 13, and Pauline were rescued in an exhausted condition. Morrison was admitted to hospital and Pauline was taken home. One of the boys was rescued by Mr Richard Robert Hull, a member of the Poneke Football Club. After bringing him ashore Mr Hull stxipped and entered the water again to rescue McKay, but was unable to find him. At the same time three men in a dinghy, using boards as paddles, went to McKay’s assistance, but before they reached him he threw up his hands and disappeared. The body has not been recovered. , The boy who was drowned was George McKay, aged 8, of Buckingham Road, Lyall Bay. Those rescued were Arthur Morrison, aged 13, McKay’s step-brother, and Ernest Pauline, aged 11, of 12 Lerwick Terrace. FATALLY INJURED BY A CAR. AUCKLAND, August 29. Injuries which later proved fatal were suffered by a middle-aged woman, believed to be Mrs Violet Rush, of Takapuna, when she was knocked down by a motor-car at Takapuna. She was crossing the road and had passed behind a motor-car travelling toward Devonport when she was struck by another motor-car driven by Douglas Broady, of Northcote, which was proceeding in the opposite direction. She was thrown on to the pavement with considerable force and suffered a fractured skull.
