ELIMINATING NOISE

THE CAMPAIGN IN BRITAIN.

MANY BODIES CO-OPERATE

Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 28.

The Anti-Noise League has issued its first annual report, which tells of the valuable help received from the National Physical Laboratory, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry for Health, the Royal Institute of British Architects, and industrial firms and others engaged in experimental work on noise problems. Many local authorities have adopted a new model by-law controlling wireless loud speakers. At least one authority has agreed to the addition of the cost of silencers on road-drills to contractors’ estimates.

Milk distributors are co-operating in the campaign, and silent electric vans or pneumatic-tyred horse-driven vans are replacing the older types, while rubber dovices are being used to deaden the noise of glass and metal containers.

The report says the development of public opinion is insistent on action to eliminate unnecessary noise, and the co-operation of experts who understand the causes of noise with the. public, which suffers from its effects, is the aim of the league.—British Official Wireless.
