The Addis Ababa correspondent of “The Times” states that defensive preparations continue, despite rain. Th ree thousand Wallamo soldiers are encamped 15 miles from Addis Ababa, en route northwards. The Emperor calmly awaits news of the League Council, consistently rejecting all suggestions that a mandate or protectorate be established if the
worst happens and the Council does not apply sanctions. Abyssinia will entertain no exaggerated hopes of* British assistance, and the populace might react from the present friendly feeling toward Britain, hence measures for the protection of 1200 British Objects are under consideration. —‘ ‘Times. ’ ’
RUMANIAN STORY DENIED.
NO BOMBER FLYING TO ABYSSINIA.
BERLIN, July 1
The Air Ministry indignantly denies the report from Rumania that a Henkel bomber, on its way to Abyssinia was forced down there, and was later allowed to go on. , It says that Germany does not possess machines of the type described, and that it does not peimit the export of war material to Abyssinia. ITALIAN ATHLETES JOIN THE ARMY. BUDAPEST, July 31. The Italian athletes have cancelled their entries for the international university games on August 10, as they have all joined the army.
