THE TEST DRAWN

DULL FINISH TO THE MATCH.

VISITORS’ CAUTIOUS BATTING.

MILD BARRACKING OF FLAYERS

(United Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, July 30.

The fourth test match, South. Africa versus England, flayed at Manchester, ended in a draw. Continuing the Home team s second innings (43 for one), Bakewell and Barber played steadily against accurate bowling until Bakewell was beaten by a splendid back-breaker. Hammond took 35 minutes to score Leyland w r as agressive with offdrives and leg-hits. Apparently the public considered a draw inevitable, only eight thousand being present at the luncheon adjournment. Wyatt and Hammond forced the pace after the adjournment. Vincent bowled 150 minutes unchanged. The South Africans, seeing no chance of winning, batted with the utmost caution, relieved by Rowan’s occasional boundaries Dull play caused mild barracking, chiefly of Mitchell. The spectators barracked the Africans for permitting the match to fizzle; out. Critics condemn the dismal finish, and criticise Wade for not sending in Cameron in the effort to snatch a win. The tame ending has produced renewed attacks on Wyatt’s captaincy. Scores: ■ * ENGLAND. First Innings 357 Second Innings.
