MINIATURE RIFLES.

NEW ZEALAND SHIELD MATCH. RESULTS IN TIE FOR FIRST PLACE The targets used in the postal match for the New Zealand Miniature Rifle Shield were checked by the officials of the Ashburton Miniature Rifle Club, which conducts this match each year, and the results were released this morning by tlie secretary (Mr A. J. Shepherd). The West End (Timaru) and United (Christchurch) tied, with scores of 490 out of 500, and targets for the shoot-off will be posted to these clubs this week. Last year the United team tied for first place with 'Christchurch, and the score was the same as that recorded this year. ~. , XT Christchurch Working Men s No. 1 team and Sydenham, each with a score of 495, were the runners-up. Thirty-one teams were entered in the match, from Dunedin to Whangarei. Only one set of targets was nbt returned, this being the set sent to the Wellington Harbour Board team.
