SALVATION ARMY
CRUSADE OF THE CROSS. ADDRESS BY LIEUT-COL. WALLS'. The necessity of Christian witness was stressed by Lieut.-Colonel C. Walls in his opening address of the Crusade of the Cross, in the Ashburton Salvation Army Hall last evening. There was a good attendance at this the first meetiing of a series which will continue until next Alonday. A period of community singing was followed by prayer and witness. Reviewing the instability of world affairs whether in commerce, politics, and even church life and faith, the invitation was given by the speaker to secure a foundation for faith and a changed life in /the injunction of Christ to Peter—“ Follow Ale.” Fallowing Christ met the need of all men in that the early result was a spiritual change, an essential for all who would walk with the Saviour of men. To Peter following Christ meant: The upper room experience, the Baptism of the Holy spirit, preaching, imprisonment, the performance of miracles, carrying the gospel message, stimulating revival, enriching future generations through spiritual messages, and glorifying Christ in death. This spirit translated into action in modem times demanded declaration, witness and testimony, self denial, which was man’s co-operation with the Divine spirit, making better conditions of life and transforming men themselves. Alany instances of recent conversion and life changing were spoken of, showing how those seeking for a basis lor faith could built upon that foundation which is the result of following the Christ.
