PRESBYTERIANS MEET
THE MAYFIELD CHURCH. The annual meeting of the Alayiield Presbyterian Church was held in the church. The Rev. A. D. Kirkland presided. The Aloderator outlined a prayer league scheme, which he hoped to start during the year. Air L. O. Alcllroy (session clerk) presented the session’s report, which stated that seven meetings had been held during the year, the active membership ol the church was 141, the attendance at the quarterly Communion services having been 95, 92, 93 and 83 respectively. The minister had held day school classes at Alayiield and M ontalto fortnightly. Air G. Johnston reported that the management committee had held eight meetings during the year. There had been one resignation from the committee, Air H. Lamb having returned to Ashburton. Airs Edmond (secretary of the Presbyterian Women’s Alission Union) stated that the year’s activities had been good, £l9 18s had been collected, and £l9 10s had been allocated to missions. Air P. AlcDowell (superintendent of the Sunday school) reported that the year had been a happy one for the teachers, 38 children being on the roll, and the attendance had been exqellent. The Young Worshippers’ League had also been well attended. The treasurer (Air A. V. Barrett) stated that the financial year had closed with a credit balance of £24 4s, and £46 17s 3d had been gathered for missions.
A resolution moved by Mr J. W. Kingan that a recommendation be forwarded to the new committee to reorganise the financial system by instituting a quota and! quarterly collection method was carried. It .was decided to continue the gathering for missions by the quarterly envelope system. It was decided that very necessary repairs to the manse be carried out, and when funds were available to paint the building. The following subcommittee was set up to obtain quotations for the repairs: Messrs Howden. Barrett and G. Johnston. Messrs J. W. Kingan, H. C. Barton, G. Johnston and A. V. Barrett were directed' to draw up a budget for the ensuing year, and allocate quotas to each district. , The following members who retired by rotation were re-elected to the committee: Mrs J. Brown, Messrs A. V. Barrett W. Cormac-k and D. Edmond. Messrs ’A. V. Barrett and G. Johnston were elected treasurer and secretary respectively of the management committee.
