HOCKEY.

THE METHVEN LADIES’ CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the Methven Ladies’ Hockey Club was held last evening, Mrs G. Johns presiding. The secretary reported that the matches and dance on May 6 showed a satisfactory credit. Reference was made to the service rendered by Radio Station 3ZM in helping to get the Christchurch players together on that day, and it was agreed to forward to them a letter of thanks and a small donation. As the outcome of a letter from the Ashburton Ladies’ Hockey Association in connection with financial assistance for the New Zealand team to visit Australia, it was decided to malke a donation of one guinea. The president reported that extorts were being made to send an Ashburton representative team to the Dominion ladies’ hockey _ tournament, which will be held at Gisborne at the end of August. A number of concessions had been arranged which would make the expenses of the trip much less than was previously_ estimated. After considerable discussion it vyas decided to guarantee £5 toward the expenses of the team. It was agreed that the club s delegates support the sending of the team to Gisborne, providing the amount necessary is in hand before the closing of the entries. The secretary stated that botn senior and junior teams had byes next Saturday, and it was agreed to play a practice match between selected teams, also to play a ‘ -midgets” match. It was decided to hold the annual six-a-side women’s and a five-a-side men’s tournament on Saturday, September 21, the grades to be senior A, senior B, and junior women’s and senior and junior men’s. It was decided to apply for a “closed day” at the Dominion for the tournament. It was also decided to hold a dance following the tournament, but final arrangements were held over till a further meeting.
