GIGANTIC FORTS.
FRENCH FRONTIER ARMEjD. CONCRETE AND STEEL NESTS. (United Press Association—Copyright). PAll IS, June 17. "The building of forts is comparable only to the gigantic operations of the old Egyptians," deciares General Rucart, a member of the Army Commission of the Chamber of Deputies in an article in "Le.Matoi" after visiting the fortified lines on the French frontier extending from the North 'Sea to the Swiss frontier. General Rucart states that in the Metz group of forts 2,000,000 cubic feet of reinforced concrete and steel has been used. The forts are linked by miles of underground passages ranging from 90ft to 120 ft deep. The defences also include sections of railway line stuck perpendicularly in the earth like great "teeth, over which, it is claimed, not even a tank could pass.
