THE WEATHER.
DULL AND BLEAK CONDITIONS. (Dull and bleak conditions prevailed in Ash burton to-day after a.cold weekend. The sun shone yesterday morning, but the sky clouded over in the afternoon. There was a cold wind. The sun shone at intervals eaYly this morning, but the sky soon became heavily overcast and (rain threatened. A fWi spots fell after mid-day, but showers held off. The barometer has fallen sharply, after rising steadily during the last few days. At 9 a.m. the reading was 29.09 inches, compared. with 29.52 inches yesterday morning and 29.74 inches on Saturday. Eight degrees of frost were registered this morning and 11.5 degrees yesterday morning. Extreme temperatures yesterday and last night were 44.8 degrees and 32.2 degrees, and those on Saturday were 45.1 degrees and 25. S degrees. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day, The Government Meteorologist, < at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— • General inference: A deep cyclone is centred west of Auckland, and, is moving slowly south-eastwards. At the same time a very deep westerly depression extends right across the south Tasman Sea. ■ The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim tc Oamaru is as follows: Moderate t>> strong north-easterly to morth-westeriy winds, backing to southerlies within about 24 hours and increasing. Weather dull and misty, with rain at times, and later possibly snow. Temperatures mild, but becoming cold to-morrow. Seas moderate to rather rough.
