A vote of sympathy with Mr H. C. Barton in his illness was passed by the Ashburton Electric Power Board this morning. . ... .. ,' Mr G. E. Argyle (bandmaster of the Ashburton Salvation Army Band) is visiting Wellington as the band's representative at ft meeting of the Salvation Army Bandmasters' and Officers' Council. He will return to-morrow. Mr H. F. Nicoll, of Ashburton (chairman of the New Zealand Trotting Conference) has left for Australia, He will attend the Australian trotting conference in Sydney this week as one ol two New Zealand representatives. Miss M. Peez, who will leave Ashburton for Wellington this week after having been attached to the staff of Messrs Hallenstein Brothers for seven years, was presented with a clock by the manager (Mr N. L. F. Wood) on behalf of the staff on Saturday. The Rev. R, S. Watson, of Ashburton, conducted the fifty-fifth sary services at Knox Presbyterian Church, Christchurch, yesterday, St. Andrew's pulpit being occupied bv the Rev. T. W. Armour, of Knox Church. Mr Watson will speak, at an anniversary social in Christchurch this evening and return to Ashburton to-mor-row.
