HOCKEY.
MEN'S MATCHES. The Mid-Canterbury Men's Hockey Sub-Association's competitions were continued on (Saturday afternoon. The grounds were in fair order, though inclined to be a little heavy on account of the recent rain. Ashburton defeated St. Andrew's by three goals to one. The scorers for Ashburton were—N. Harper, F. Ford and R. Moylan, while the goal lor St. Andrew's was shot by S. McElhmney. The referees were Messrs W. B. Thomas and W. C. Bishop. Baring Square had a decided victory over St. Stephen's, winning by seven gbals to nil. St. Stephen's did not.field a full team. The scorers were—W. Corbett (3), K. Fowke (2), and T. Pethick and G. Kelly. Messrs Thomas and Bishop were the referees. WOMEN'S MATCHES, The competitions of the Ashburton Women's Hockey Association were continued in fine but very weather on Saturday afternoon, matches being contested in several parts of the County some of them being played on the handicap system. The grounds were in fairly good order. Senior Grade. The match between Tinwald (scr) and Old Girls (scr) resulted in a win for Tinwald by four goals to one. Goals for Tinwald were shot by F. Gudsell (2) and M. Henderson and 11. Hyland. E. Jary scored for Old Girls. , „ Mr E. M. Gabites was the referee. A win by six goals to five was .registered by Lowclitte (3 goals) in its match against Baring Square (2 goals). I. Haack shot two goals and E. Anderson one for Lowcliffe, while T. Williams (2) and B. Hamilton were the scorers for Square. Mr H. E. Harwood was the referee. Playing at Mount Somers, Hinds (scr) had a decisive win oyer Mount Somers (hep. 4) 4. The scorers were J. Lowe 4, M. Lowe 1, F. Donaldson 4, J. Watson 2, J. Davison 2. ■ Mr Johnston was referee. Kereone (handicap 2 goals) defeated Rakaia (handicap 2) by 3 goals to I at liakaia. junior Grade.
High School defeated Tinwald by eight goals to nil in a bright open match. The scorers were B. B'aird b and M. Harrow 2. Mr J. Wylhe was T'pffil'GG At Methven the home team defeated Hinds B team by four goals to ml. The scorers were Jean Newman, Margaret Cook, Evelyn Paterson, and Joyce Williams one each. Mr H. Glasson was referee.
