Messrs Hayirian and Bosshart, who have been held captive by Chinese bandits since October, were alive ten days ago. / ' t The British Legation to-day learned from the Consul at Charigsa, Hunan Province, that a letter, dated April 20, had been received from a missionary, Becker, stating that both captives were’ at Lung-shia-iChi, 35 miles from Yung Chow-fu, Southern Hunan. They were being well treated 1 .

Mr A. Hayman, a native of Auckland (New Zealand), Mr It. A. Bosshardt, of England, and Miss G. Emblem,' of Canada—three missionaries attached to the China Inland Mission—were captured on October 1, eighty miles east of Kvveiyang, capital of the Kweichow Province. They were carried off when Red outlaws attacked the small town of Chenyuan. Mr Hayman has been with the China Inland Mission since 1913. Ho was in charge of the mission# at Kvveiyang. Mrs Hayman a native of the Isle of Wight, was married to Mr Hayman in 1928. Mrs Hayman and Mrs Bosshardt were on the way to the Kweiyang Mission when the outrage occurred. They escaped being captured. Miss Emblem was. ieleased to convey a demand for a ransom.
