FAMOUS ARTIST’S WORKS. FIRE AT AUGUSTUS JOHN’S. (United Press Association—Copyright) LONDON) April 30. Returning home at 11.20 p.m. after visiting friends, Mrs John, wife of Mr Augustus John, the artist, found their home, Fryern Court, at Fordingbridgo, in Hampshire, on fire. Her husband, their son and a maid were asleep in rooms above the burning rooms. She aroused them and all fought the flames until the arrival of a fire brigade. In the dining-room antique furniture and paintings, some by Mr Augustus John, were burned.
