SOME GOOD QUALITY SHEEP.

VALUES IMPROVE UP TO Is 6d

After the Easter holidays, butchers are holding short supplies and the demand for butchers' lines at the weekly stock market at the Ashburton saleyards to-day was consequently good. The yarding was an improvement on that at Tinwald a fortnight ago both in the matter of quality and quantity. Some prime pens of ewes and wethers brought very satisfactory prices and there was a marked increase throughout the sale, with values up to Is 6d a head better than at Tinwald. Mr G. R. AVatson (Westerfield) sold one fat ewe at 19s and a client received 18s lOd for nine. Nine .sent in bv Mis G. B. Hampton (Chertsey) realised 18s 4d and Messrs Waugh Brothers (Mount Somers) made tire same figure for three. Mr W. J. Allan (Kuapuna) sold one at 17s and sales of eight and three were made at 16s lOd on account of Mr L. Hanrahan (Dromore) and Mr L. E. Bennett (Ruapuna) respectively. Two fat wethers entered by Mr M. O'Connor (Ruapuna) realised 23s lOd, and Messrs Wangh Brothers (Mount Somers) sold 12 at 17s lOd. Mrs T. M. Hampton (Tinwald) was the most successful vendor of fat lambs, disposing .of four at 23s lOd. Lambs on account of clients made 21s lOd and 20s lOd and Mr T. At the opening of the wool .sales prices showed an advance of 7i per cent, on the closing sales at Sydney on April 11. Competition was keen for an average selection, amd the clearance was the best seen at auction for a considerable time.
