MOUNT SOMERS SHOW
PRODUCE AND FLOWERS. A GOOD DISPLAY MADE. CHURCH PARISH FUNCTION. Despite a cold, stormy day, the fourth annual produce show and sale-of-work held in the Mount Isomers Memorial Hall on Saturday, in aid of funds for the parochial district, was an outstanding -success. The gross takings amounted to oyer £l6O. The sum realised is a tribute to the effective work of the organisers (Mrs F. Peter and Messrs J. A. Mears and A. N. Grigg), who were assisted by a band or willing helpers. As was anticipated, on account of the dry summer, there was a big drop in the entries of farm produce. Cookery, home industries ana sewing, however, attracted much competition, and the standard of exhibits generally was high. A special feature was the large number of side-shows and amusements, which added much to the gaiety. Sir William Nosworthy, in opening the show, expressed pleasure at the opportunity of again meeting a number of former political constituents. Ha complimented the parishioners upon their splendid effort to help the parish. Although the world was passing through a mighty revolution, politically and- socially—an upheaval that was most appalling in far countriesit was significant, said Sir William, that people were being drawn to their churches and more fully realised that they depended on more than their own efforts. • Afternoon tea was dispensed by the Mayfield ladies, and supper by the Mount Somurs - Stayeley ladies, Miss Wright and Mrs Tomlinson being oi great assistance.
