FORMOSA DISASTER.
WHOLE VILLAGES ENGULFED FISSURES IN THE EARTH. (United Press Association—Copyright). TOKIO, April 23. Carrier pigeons brought the latest details of the results of the earthquake in Formosa. Damage to property is estimated at £5,000,000. There .are 3185 dead and 94'?8 injured, and 31,000 houses have been destroyed. Fissures which appeared engulfed whole villages. The natives call them "the devil's laughing mouths."' Further shocks were recorded yesterday.
