BRIGHT AND HOT TO-DAY. Conditions in Ashburton were bright to-day and the temperature was high. The sun rose in a blue sky with clouds and there was a light northerly wind. The barometric, pressure this morning was 29.64'inches, and extreme temperatures yesterday and last night were 66.8 degrees and 53.5 degrees. TO-DAY’S FORECAST (Per Pt-ess Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: An anti-cyclone of slight intensity is located east of New Zealand while a deep depression covers the Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island' from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate to strong northerly to northwesterly winds reaching gale force in places. Weather fair to cloudy and warm but rain probable in western ranges. Seas rough north of Kaikourn elsewhere moderate.
