Miss B. Hight (Matron of the Malvern. Maternity Home) left yesterday to spend a month’s holiday in Christchurch and on a motor tour.
Mr D. H. Williams, of the Geraldine staff of the Bank of New Zealand, who has been relieving at Methven, has returned to Geraldine.
Mr O. R. Gardner has been appointed deputy-registrar of births and deaths at Mayfield, states the “Gazette.” ,
The Mayor of Ashburton (Mr W. H. Woods) returned this morning after attending the annual conference of the Municipal Association of New Zealand, in Christchurch.
Mr W. C. Colee. who has resigned his position as headmaster of the Normal School, Christchurch, was assistant master at the Hampstead School (now Ashburton East) from 1900 to 1904.
Mr J. D. Fairgray arrived in Ashburton last evening to act as manager of the Ashburton branch of the Bank of New Zealand during the absence on holiday of Mr_C. A. Cuff. Mr Cuff will be away for about two months.
Dr. J. Russell Wells and Mrs Wells returned to Ashburton this morning after visiting Australia. Dr. Wells attended tlie annual meeting of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Melbourne.
A Wellington telegram states that Mr L. Glover (president of the New Zealand Watersiders’ Federation and vice-president of the Alliance cf Labour) has been selected as nominee of the Alliance of Labour for the position of Labour delegate to the International Labour Conference at Geneva.
At the Canterbury Education Board meeting the following appointments were confirmed: — Montalto, Miss O. M. Beck, sole teacher; Pendarves, Miss L. Bliss, sole teacher. The following transfers were confirmed: Ashburton, Mr S. W. Gower, from Tinwald; E'iffelton, Miss M. P. Walker from Pareora East. The following resignations were accepted: Allandale, Miss M. K. Isitt, sole teacher l(Maronan); Rakaia, Miss M. I. J. Bowden, assistant mistress (retiring).
Mr S. Ross, who has been assistant in the weaving department of the Ashburton woollen mills for about 14 years, has received an appointment in Invercargill and prior to his departure by train this morning was presented with a shaving outfit by other employees in his department. Mr Ross, who was Drum-Major of tjie Ashburton Pipe Band, was entertained by bandsmen last evening and three pipers were present at the railway station this morning to play selections before the departure cf the train.
