WOOL AT DUNEDIN
DECLINE IN PRICES. NOT 80 GREAT AS EXPECTED. FIRST CATALOGUE REALISATION. HALF-BRED FOR THE CONTINENT GOOD SELECTION AND QUALITY. :JPer Pxeaa Association). DUNEDIN, This Day. The third Dunedin wool sale was held this morning, 24,662 bales being offered.
For the first catalogue the prices realised were, better than had been expected, probably because the selection and quality had a greater appeal than those at recent sales.
Half-breds proved suitable for the Continent, which had better limits, partly accounted for by the improved market for the sterling. Compared with the last local sale, merinos declined a penny, half-bred by £d, f-nd cross-bred by a farthing. Top prices in the hist catalogue were 14a for 6 bales of merino combing and 13*d for superfine half-bred binned.
The great bulk of the offering was 'station clips, and later shorn fine wool. 'Only about 7£ .per cent of the first catalogue was passed. Growers and brokers were prepared for substantial drops in half-breds but the decline was slight. There was not the same keken competition from local mills for super lots, which were below the February rates. A strong demand was experienced for pieces, but within strict limits. Competition was well distributed. France bid keenly but Germany and Japan were satisfied with small orders. Bradford was predominant, lifting a big proportion of fine wools. In other offerings the top price of the first catalogue were not exceeded up to noon. THE LONDON WOOL SALE. LOWER PRICES ANTICIPATED. (Received This Day, 8.55 a.m.) LONDON, March 8. "The Yorkshire Observer" says that Russia and Germany are expected to operate again at the London wool sale. France also will probably bo a buyer owing to depreciation oi the sterling. Russia bought substantial quantities at the last series but her full needs are not satisfied. It is generally expected that on Tuesday values will be ■reduced compared with those at the previous series but the course oi the sales depends largely on Continental operations. __________
