RATE LIABILITY.
THE MORTGAGE CORPORATION. COUNTY COUNCIL'S PROTEST. In connection with >the National Mortgage Corporation Bill, the Ashburton County Council dispatched the following telegram to the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) and Messrs J. Connolly, M.P., and T. D. Burnett, M.P., last night:"The Ashburton County Council protests against the provisions of the Mortgage Corporation Bill proposing to relieve the Corporation of liability for the payment of rates as mortgagee. Local body finance will be rendered most insecure if such provisions become law."
