WOMEN AS SHIELD.

CONVICTS BREAK GAOL. SMUGGLED PISTOLS USED. (United Press Association—Copyright). NEW YORK, February 17. A message from Granite, Oklahoma, states that 21 long-term convicts effected a daring escape from the State Reformatory there while a group of visitors, including women and children, were inspecting the institution. All the convicts were equipped with smuggled pistols, and, partially using the visitors as a shield, forced thenkeepers to open a gate. In an exchange of fire one of the keepers, was killed and three convicts *-ere wounded and captured. The remainder made good their escape in stolen automobiles.
