Animated bidding at the wool sales resulted in a clearance of 90 per cent, ofi the 8592 bales offered. The top prices were: Merino I7£d' per lb, the ■ highest of the present series; and comeback, 16|d. PIGS AND POULTRY. THE ASHBURTON MARKET. Sales of pigs and poultry held ’n Ashburton to-day were as follow: Poultry—Hens Is to 2s 6d, roosters Is lOd to 2s Bd\ ducks Is lod to 3s sd, geese 4s to 4s 6d. Pigs—Baconers £2 2s 6d to £2 10s, porkers £1 9s fid to £1 14s 6d, stores £1 to £1 4s 6d, weaners and slips 11s 6d to 163 6d. Purebred Pigs Three Tamworth boars (5 months) £2'lßs, one at £2 15s, one (2 months) at £1 12s. one at £1 10sj two Tamworth sows (2 mths) £1 10s; three Berkshire sows (llmths) £2; sow in pig £2 7s 6d, sow with litter of six £3 12s.
