CONDITIONS SAVOUR OF SPRING Although 10 degrees of frost were recorded in Ashburton yesterday morning, conditions during the day •savoured of spring. The sun shone in a clear sky, and there was little or no wind. The temperature was extremely mild. There was only one degree of frost this morning after a fairly mild night. The sun shone in a hazy sky to-day, and another warm day was experienced. The barometric pressure this morning was 29.87 inches, compared with 29.94 inches yesterday morning. The maximum temperature yesterday was 60.1 degrees, the highest since July 15, when the reading was 64.2 degrees. The minimum last night was 36.3 degrees.,while extremes,on Saturday were 57 degrees and 27.6 degrees. TO-DAY’S FORECAST, (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON. This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General Inference: The recent anticyclone is now centred east of the North Island. A complex series of depressions coyers most of the Tasman Sea, the most active centre being west of Norfolk Island. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:

Light to moderate hut increasing northerly winds. Weather cloudy and mild; rain' probable within 24 hours. Seas rough at times about Cook Strait, elsewhere moderate.
