PERSONAL.

Mr E. M. Cole, who died at Papanui on Friday, aged 83, was the father of Air E. W. Al. Cole, manager ot the Ashburton branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd.

At a largely-attended congregational meeting of the Rakaia Presbyterian Church last evening it was decided- to extend a- call to the Rev. Dl. B. Ashford, of New Brighton, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation ot the Rev. A. S. Alorrison.

Air H. A. Barnett, who has been on the staff of the Rakaia School since the beginning of the year, has relinquished his position to take up an appointment with W. H. Tisdall, Ltd. Air Barnett, who is a prominent New Zealand lawn tennis player, is playing in the ’Varsity senior hockey team this winter.

Reference to the loss sustained by the Baring Square Methodist Church in the death of Mrs Rosannah Brown was made by the Rev. R. J. Liddell, who occupied the pulpit yesterday morning. The preacher paid a tribute to Mrs Brown’s work in the Women 8 Christian Temperance Union and various church organisations.

Mr W. IL Dixon (conductor of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society), who is shortly to leave for England, was the guest of honour at a social and musical evening given by the choir and committee of the society on Saturday evenimr. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes (president “of the society) presented Mr Dixon with a gold watch on behalf of the choir and Mr J- M. Heath (chairman of the committee) also spoke appreciatively 6f Mr Dixon’s work as conductor.
