MAJESTIC THEATRE. "Moulin Bouge," the cliieT offering at the Majestic Theatre to-night and on Monday night, features Constance Bennett and Franchot Tone. It is the story of an ambitious young wife who tries desperately to secure her husband's consent to renewing her theatrical career, which she abandoned a few years"before to marry him. He stubbornly refuses, belittling; her talent and asserting it is her business to be a home-maker, not a puppet of the public. How she achieves her object makes an interesting story. There are a number of good supporting films to be shown with the big film. CHORAL SOCIETY'S PRESENTATION. The Ashburton Choral Society's final performance under the baton of M r WH. Dixon is to be given on Monday evening in His Majesty's Theatre, when the world-famous opera, "Carmen," will be produced, together with Mendelssohn's unfinished opera, "Loreley." "Carmen" is an opera of world-wide popularity, and is as highly esteemed by musicians as by the public because of its beautiful choruses, melodious solos and glowing orchestral colour. The soloists engaged are Miss. Thelma Thompson (Carmen), Mrs W. Owen (Micaela), Mr E. J. Davies, of Dunedin (Don Jcse), and Mr T. D. Williams (Escamillo). In the unfinished opera, "Loreley," Mrs D. A. Lawson has been engaged to sing the solo, part, which begins with a beautiful "Ave Maria." The blending of soloist and chorus in this work cannot fail to thrill music-lovers. As this is Mr Dixon's last appearance in Ashburton,. the society hopes that the public will show its aopreciation of his efforts to foster goo 3 music in the community. The. box plan is at Osman's.
