-DOMINION TO UNITED STATES. AN AMERICAN'S PREDICTION. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, August 10. It is.possible that seaplanes will be in operations within two years between New Zealand and the United States, carrying mails and passengers, and taking three and a-half days on the journey by way of Honolulu and Suva, according to Mr Bernt Balchen, former pilot for Rear-Admiral R. E. Byrd, and now pilot for Mr Lincoln Ellsworth. ' Mr Balchen said in an interview that commercial aviation was being developed extremely ; rapidly, and it was common talk in flying circles in the United States that the Pacific would soon be tackle'd by commercial airalt behoves New Zealand to be first in the field." he said, "otherwise Australia may be made the terminus. He expressed surprise that there was no air service between Auckland and Dunedin. There was no excuse for holding back .with aviation at its present state of development.
