DECISIONS OF THE COMMITTEE. EWE HOGGETS COMPETITION. The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Methven Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held last evening. There were present— Messrs G. Callaghan (president), G. Kelly, A. Geddes, R. J. Low, J. McDonald. L. L. Richards, C. C. Winn, Gr. Geddes, J. Ruddenklau, S. Campbell, P. S. McDonald. W. C. Lowery, J. Wootton, J. Steffens, R. Dart, O. Hi. Watson, A. M Hart, S. Hampton, A. Goodwin, W. E. Hampton, and E. F. Grigg. • Votes of condolence were passed to Messrs Francis Woods and F. Davison in their bereavements.

The president extended a welcome* to the new members of the Committee, and expressed the hope that all would co-operate to further the interests of the Association.

The Canterbury Education Board wrote advising that the new High School buildings being now in use there was no further need for the use of "the buildings on the Showgrounds for wood work classes. A number of associations forwarded particulars of Show dates, including Ashbuitoh on November 1, Canterbury Metropolitan November 8 and 9, Christchurch Ram Fair March 21 and 22, Mayfield March 16. The Southdown Sheep Society wrote advising that it would donate a gold medal for the best 2-tooth ram from a flock, registered with the Soicety. The' Director-General of x\griculture forwarded, regulations which have been made pursuant to section 3 of the Act, which empowers societies to make by-laws controlling the admission of persons to A. and P. Shows by means of a system of licensing specified classes of persons. The Methven Saleyards Company wrote asking the Association to nominate a date for. the Methven Ram Fair: It was also pointed out that the Ewe Fair was fixed for March 15. The secretary also drew attention to the fact that the company had decided that only surplus sheep from hill country runs and genuine farmers' lots would be accepted for this fixture. After some discussion March 19 was suggested as the most suitable date and it was decided that a sub-commit-tee consisting of Messrs Low, McDonald, and Ruddenklau get in touch with other breeders, and report later.

It was decided to hold the annual Show on March 30. The presfdent, vice-presidents, and marshals of each section were appointed a sub-commit-tee to revise the schedule. , ' The following marshals were appointed:—iSheep, Mr A. McLood; cattle,, Mr C. C. Winn; draught horses, Mr W. C. Lowery; light horses, Mr E. F. Grigg; ponies, Mr S. Hampton; dogs, Mr F. S. McDonald; pigs and poultry, Mr A. Geddes. In regard to wool, Vegetables,, and fruit, Messrs Winn, Dart, and Wootton were appointed a sub-committee to revise the section.

It was decided to adopt the suggestion of the -women's sub-committee for the revision of the needlework and home industries sction. Several committeemen's wives were added to the committee. It was agreed that the marshals of each section arrange for a. meeting of sub-committees at their own convenience.

-In recognition of lenoth of service Mesdames K. Dickie and A. F. Marr. who are retiring from active work on the women's committee, and Mrs W. Morgan, were elected lion, life members of the Association. One member was elected.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Low for providing a quantity of bluegum droppers for the Showgrounds fences. ....

Mr Watson brought up the question of the competition for ewe' hoggets in the Flock Ewe Competition. He pointed out that the competition a's a whole had been abandoned, but there was a Cup for this particular class. It was a pity .that as there had been four entries in this, the competition had been dropped. It was decided that the secretary et in touch with those who had eiv tries in, to see' whether they would still compete. The following were appointed to act as judges: Messrs R. C. Todhunter, C. A. Campion, and F. S.* McDonald. It was agreed that August 28 be judging day, provided it is suitable to all parties.
