ANTARCTIC FLIGHT.

MONOPLANE ON MONTEREY.

(Per Plress Association). AUCKLAND, August 10. Mr Lincoln Ellsworth's monoplane, the Polar Star, the machine which was badly damaged last year on the eve of the projected flight across the Antarctic, returned by the Monterey to-day. Mr Ellsworth is due on September 10 from Honolulu. Mr Bernt Balchen, the pilot who superintended the repairs, said' the aeroplane now had floats in addition to wheels and skis/ so it could be used as a seaplane if necessary. Their ob-. ject now was to fly from Deception Island to the far end of Weddell Sea, and thence to Little America, a total distance of only 2650 miles and they had fuel for 4200 miles. _ "We hope for better luck this time, he said. The Wyatt Earp will pick up Mr Balchen and the aeroplane at the beginning of next week 'and will sail on Tuesday or Wednesday direct for Dunedin.
