Mr Poison said he had decided some time to ship Winooka back to Australia. He had only a temporary permit for residence in the States and he wished to jdln the Mariposa on her last southward voyage a month ago. However owing to the longshoremen'? strike, he was unable to risk transporting Wmooka to Los Anseles and was forced to wait for the Monterey. Before his departure, United States immigration officials informed him that he had overstayed his permit, and he had to pay a fine of 700 dollars. . T "In view of the circumstances, I thought "it was rather autocratic," Mr Poison said. "I had to pay the fine, but I lodged a complaint and I understand I have prospects of getting tne money back."
