DETTON BEATS SHIKINA. NAPIER, August 8. In a professional wrestling bout last evening Detton defeated Shikina in a fast and exciting match. The Japanese was counted out after being bunted through the ropes in the eighth round. Detton gained a fall in the third round, Shikina submitting from a hammerlock, figure four and head scissors. Shikina evened_ in the fifth with an arm bar and body press KOLOFF BEATS SHIKINA WANGANUI, August 8. In a tame wrestling bout, which went only four zx>unds, Koloff (16st) beat Shikina (14st 101b)_ by two falls to nil. Shikina was giving away too much weight and Koloff was not in trouble at any stage. BOUT IN ASHBURTON. The professional wrestling match to be staged at His Majesty's Theatre next Wednesday evening, between George Walker (British Empire champion) and Carl Steening (of South Africa), promises to be the best bout of the season. Carl Steening, who has just arrived in New Zealand, has a wonderful record, having met all the leading mat men of America. The Ashburton Association is to be congratulated on securing his first New Zealand appearance. Steening was brought over by the Wrestling Union on the recommendation of Dan Koloff. The big bout will be preceded by four amateur bouts.
