OBITUARY.

MR HENRY RUDDENKLAU. Mr Henry Ruddenklau, known as the “father of farming” in the Waimate district, died suddenly on Thursday afternoon at the age of 72 years. He was a keen student of every branch of farming, and had a special interest in Border Leicester sheep, of which he was a successful breeder and exhibitor. . ... Mr Ruddenklau settled in the district about 50 years ago, taking un the property then known as “Hokenseld” at Hook. Ho went to “Downlands” at Waimate about 25 years later, and successfully farmed this and several adjacent properties. His services were freely giv<3n on the various farmers’ organisations, and his generosity was a by-word in every grade of society. He leaves widow, four sons and four daughters."
