THE REPLACEMENT QUESTION.

In the Hoiise of lords, the .Government was asked what steps were proposed to assist the scrapping of obsolete cargo vessels and their replacement by modern ships. Lord, Templeniore (a Lord-m-Wait-ing), replying,. said that the Government was giving serious attention to this important question. Although trade and industry were improving, there was two black spots—shipbuilding and coal. He was authorised to say that while it was not possible to make a specific announcement Mr Runciman (President of the Board of Trade) hoped to be in a position to make a statement on the subject in the House of Commons shortly.—British Official Wireless.
