EXPENDITURE ON RELIEF. £17,687 IN ASHBURTON COUNTY. FIGURES FOR THE PAST YEAR. A sum of no less than- £17,687 11s 6d was spent in the Ashburton County on unemployed relief work during the past 12 . months, according to a report presented to the Ashburton County Council at its meeting to-day. Tlie year ended on March 31. The figures were shown as follow: Bridges—Ashburton £196 7s - 6d, Rangitata £3, Hoods £7 ss, Mount Somers £26 12s 6d, Ashburton Gorge £1 15s ; total £235. County Roads—Ashburton Gorge £l4 10s, Mount Somers riding £7 15s, Maronaii £3l 10s, Alford Forest £l, Hakatere-Potts £66, Hakatere-Lake Heron £l5O 10s, Carter’s Terrace corner £25 ss, sundry £1 15s • total £298 ss.
