PACT OF PEACE

GERMANY AND POLAND. CONSOLIDATING EUROPEAN SECURITY. SIGNATURE BY GERMANY, (United Press Association—Copyright.) BERLIN, January 26. A comrrfunique announces that Germany and Poland have signed a pact of non-aggression, with a currency of ten years, with a view to consolidating European peace in the spirit of the Kellogg Pact. Jl " V The signature of the pact may infer a modification of Herr Hitler’s policy, as expressed when he attained control of Germany, for the extension of Germany eastwards, and the creation of a German hegemony embracing all the Germanic peoples of Europe. It infers that, the Polish Corridor, created by tlie Treaty of Versailles, and the German Provinces now incorporated in Poland are to retain their present status, and it removes from Europe one of tl>e most dangerous of the points of tension. Herr Hitler has aheady stated that Germany is content with her frontier in • the west, and except for tlie 'Saar, which will 'be settled by plebiscite next year, the negotiation of the Polish pact leaves only the southern frontiers of Germany, where she abuts against Austria and Czecho-Slovakia as grave sources of danger to the peace of Europe.

WELCOMED BY BRITAIN. EASTERN FRONTIERS ACCEPTED. (Received This Day, 11.5. a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 27. The announcement that a pact of understanding lias been reached between the German an cl Polish Governments is warmly welcomed by the British Press. ' Its validity i's limited to 10 years, but, says “The Times,” for that period, at least; there will be a voluntary acceptance by Germany of her Eastern frontiers. Eastern Locarno, which has been for so long a desideration of European diplomacy, has been provisionally established. The two Governments have decided to base their relations on the Kellog Pact, and to defiite more precisely tlie application of its principles to their own relationship. _ “The Times” notes that since Herr Hitler came into power German Polish relations have steadily improved. It adds that the Treaty must mean a cessation of the “revision” .propaganda. i OPPOSITION WALKS OUT. GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSAL. WARSAW, Jan. 26, The Opposition walked out of Parliament and announced their refusal to participate in any further discussion on the Government Parties Refoim Bill, which gives the President almost dictatorial powers, reducing the Lowei House to a mere advisoiy status.
