HIGH HONOUR.
WELSH TERRITORIALS. EX-NEAV ZEALANDER’S COMMAND. The British AVar Office has paid a fine compliment to the South AVales Territorial, units by selecting the 160th Infantry Brigade, the headquarters of which are at Cardiff, to attend the Regular Army manoeuvres on Salisbury Plains next September. The brigade, which is commanded by Colonel J. L. Sleeman, who formerly was on duty in New Zealand as chief cf Headquarters staff, will represent the whole of the Territorial Army. This is an experiment never before attempted, and is a high tribute to the efficiency and zeal of AA’elsh citizen 'soldiers. Their attendance will bo in lieu of the ordinary annual camp and it will be a stirring and Instructive experience for Territorial froop-s to operate alongside the pick of the Regular forces and with the all-round' services, including machine guns, tanks and aeroplanes. The. “Western Mail” says:—“Undoubtedly the .selection of the South AA r ales Brigade for this honour will excito the envy of other Territorial units in the United Kingdom, and will also focus attention upon the earnestness and efficiency, with which AA’elsh troops undertake the duty of national defence.”
Colonel Sleeman said: —“I knew that I had a very fine brigade, but realising how good others were I never thought for a moment that wo had climbed the ladder of efficiency and discipline so high. But a brigade at full strength and which has not had a serious crime during .the (last three years took a lot of beating, and tho.se responsible, for this perfection will now have the greatest reward in the high honour accorded us by the AVa-r Office.”
