CYCLING.
THE PROBLEM OF CONTROL. A STATEMENT REFUTED. WELLINGTON, October 30. Mr A. C. Kitto, (president of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre), lias published a reply to a Press Association message from Christchurch, in which he says:—"Mr J. Sturrock (chairman of the council of the newlyformed League of Wheelman), makes use of my name and, if correctly reported, states that I. made to him the following statement: 'That the New Zealand Cycling Council was prepared to drop out and let the league carry on.' Not being a member of that body, with no authority to speak for them and not knowing their views on the question, I give his statement an emphatic' denial. 'As far as the Wellington Centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. is concerned, it is incorrect to say that we will support the league. We will place no obstacles in the 0 way of cyclists here if they desire to link up with the New Zealand League of Wheelmen. If the movement proves itself I see no reason why the league and the athletic centres should not work in harmony. "For at least twenty years we have done our best for our cyclists. We have at times given them eVen more consideration than our own athletes. They have had the benefit of perfect organisation and if, in face of this, they wish to break away, then we say, why stop them?"
LEAGUE OF WHEELMEN. DUNEDIN CLTJR TO AFFILIATE. DUNEDIN, October 30. T)ie Otago Amateur Cycling Club and the Pacific Cycling Club to-night amalgamated to form the Dunedin Amateur Cycling Club. A vote of active riders resulted in a unanimous decision to break away from the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and affiliate with the League of Wheelmen.
