KISSING MARATHON.
NEW AMERICAN CRAZE. AMAZJNO EXHIBITION. NEW YORK, August 30. ! Having at some time or another produced champions in pie-eating, marathon dancing, sleeping, drinking, handwalking, hopping and every other sort of freak entertainment, America is now searching for a non-stop kissing champion. There were 22 starters in an eventcalled "the international kissing marathon, in New York to-day, and three •cf these were .still kissing when, the content closed after a session of one hour and six and a-half minutes.
To-morrow, the six puffy-lipped survivors will start off again in the effort to find the non-stop kissing champion. The contestants, some of' them strangers to each other, began the marathon on a platform. When they showed little sign of exhaustion, after 30 minutes, they were herded, still in a dream-eyed embrace, to the stage of a theatre. One couple,' Mr and Mrs Neweomb, both 70 years of age, gave up after lasting 19 minutes. "Anything' gets tiresome after one has been married 52 years," remarked Mrs Neweomb.
