Our Hollyhocks were greatly admired in many Ashburton gardens last year. ASTER—Burpee’s Sunshine Mixed. An entirely new family. The flowers have a centre of quilled petals, surrounded with many florets, the effect being very charming. They are most lovely, especially for cutting. They will take a prominent place amongst Asters. The flowers are 4 to 6 inches in diameter and have a grace all of their own. All Aster colours, and most lovely shadings. Height ljft. Gd per plct. HOLLYHOCKS—DoubIe Triumph. This latest introduction of the Hollyhock is of branching habit, all the stems being studded with “ prettilywaved and fringed flowers, which appear in a kalaidoscope variety of colour hitherto unknown in the genus. As many as 45 colours have been known in one plantation. Height, 4 to 5 feet. Bloom Bto 10 days earlier than-the ordinary class. 2s per packet. HOLLYHOCK—lmperator. Double-crested, Begonia Flowered. A striking new departure has been made in this splendid new Hollyhock. Rising to a stately height it bears flowers 51 to inches across, consisting of wide outer petals, elegantly frilled and deeply fringed, in the centre of which appears a double rosette about 2 inches across, the whole suggesting a crested Begonia on a giant scale. The colourings include various tints of great beauty, such as Cerise-Salmon with centre of Rose, Reflecting Rose, Delicate Pink, with centre of Rose, Flushed Yellow, and numerous other wonderful combinations. 2s per pkt. DELPHINIUM—HoIIyhock Strain. The individual flowers of this particular race are exceptionally large. The spikes are of extraordinary length and the tapering spire-like shape gives the appearance of the Hollyhock, hence the name. They embrace an indescribable range of rich and varied tints, and the plants continue to bloom over a very long period. Hardy Perennial. Is per pkt. DOUBLE MINIATURE P/EONY or Charm Dahlias. Charm Dahlias are a new and delightful type of miniature decorative and are becoming increasingly popular on account of their small and attractive flowers in many striking colours, and art shades. Splendid for cutting. By .sowing seed early in July in heat, strong plants may be obtained for planting out in October, and they will bloom from December till frost. Is per packet. NEMESIA STRUMOSA SUTTONII. Tall Rainbow. Greatly-improved stock, a greater variety of colour and larger flowers than any other of this favourite flower. Flowers of every imaginable shade are borne continuously during Summer in great profusion. Sow in boxes with light soil in August and September and plant out in November. Is per pkt. NEMESIA—Dwarf Rainbow. The flowers of this strain are nearly as large as the taller type, but the plants, in addition to being dwarf, have a more compact habit, making them particularly suitable for bedding or pot work. This strain contains a greater range of colour than any other—hence the name. ' Is per pkt. NEMESIA. Aurora. Beautiful Carmine and White Bicolor flowers—lower half, Pure White, upper half, Vivid Carmine. 1/- per packet. CALENDULA-Sunshine. Height—2 to 2| feet. The very numerous flowers are of a Bright Golden Canary Yellow, with long centre petals tending to curl inwards, thus presenting somewhat the appearance of a Japanese Clirysanthemum. Blooms for a long period. Splendid for cutting, or open borders. Gd per packet. BURPEE’S VERBENA. , Dwarf Fireball. This fine annual grows 6 inches tall, and is a compact, -well rounded habit. Literally covered with Bright Scarlet blooms. Fine for beds or borders. 1/- per packet. NASTURTIUM—GoIden Gleam. Double Sweet Scented. The extra petals enhance the attraction of the large Yellow flowers, which are 2£ to 3 inches across and give out a pleasant odour. The plant is of semirailing habit, and throwing the blooms well above the foliage, makes a very showy effect in beds. 6d and 1/- per packet. CLARKIA FF. PL. Vesuvius. This is one of our latest novelties. A Beautiful Orange Scarlet, with exceptionally fine double flowers. 6d per packet. CHEIRANTHUS KEWENSIS. Winter Flowering Wallflower. Sulphur passing to Purple and Gold. ’ Gd per packet. BURPEE’S PANSY. Oregon’s Giants. Marvellous Pansies of extreme size, grown for us by the originator. This strain differs from others in that the flowers are somewhat more flattened, but this characteristic adds considerably to the size of the blooms, which, if well grown, measure 4 inches across. The originator exhibited such blooms at the Oregon Flower Show in 1928. A graceful wave adds beauty to the flowers that excell other Pansies in size, and embrace as fine a colour range. 2/- per packet. COONARA PINKS (Papaver). The perfection of Iceland Poppies, being a re-selected and improved strain introducing a number of new and distinct soft and showy shades, of Pale Pink and Salmon on long stems. This can be classed as a Hardy Perennial or Hardy Annual. Seeds should be sown in September where the plants are intended to flower, and thin to about a foot apart. If grown in clusters they make a glowing mass of glorious flowers. XI- per packet. PAPAVER OR SUNBEAM POPPIES. This is a new and distinct strain of Perennial Poppies. They closely resemble the well-known Iceland Poppy, but are so much superior in every way that they must he classed as being new and distinct. The stems are very long and stout, the flowers are so much larger, and the plant is robust. Colour from the Palest Yellow to the Blazing Orange Scarlet. Sown in September or October they will bloom in early Autumn. ’ 1/- per packet. CARNATION—Giant Double Chabaud (Clove Scented). During the last three years we have sold hundreds of packets and have many letters of praise for this wonderful Carnation. 1/ -per packet. CAMPANULA ROTUNDIFOLIA. True Scotch Blue Bell. * Very pretty slender variety, neat foliage, slender habit, Pale Blue. Remains in flower till late in the Autumn. Height 12 inches. Hardy Biennial. Sow in October to December. Supplies of this seed are very scarce, stock very limited. ±/- pc. packet. MARIGOLD—Guinea v»old. This' is a very distinct type of Marigold of very graceful pyramidal habit, growing to 2) feet and producin'- 80 to 40 flowers 2 to 2| inches across, of brilliant shade of Orange flushed with Gold. Unlike the ordinary African Marigold this new variety produces no single flowers but all semi-doubles. The strong Marigold odour, too, is much less pronounced than in any other kind. 1/- per packet. TRITOMA SEMPIFLORENS. Red Hot Poker Plant. Height—3 to 5 feet. They can easily be raised from seed, and will flower well the second year, making a brilliant show with herbaceous borders. II- per packet. SCHIZANTHUS. Hurst’s Chislehurst Strain of Giant * Hybrids. This strain is remarkable for the immense size of the flowers. The colours range from Delicate Pink to the Deep Satiny Violet, charmingly marked and marbled. 1/- per packet. SCHIZANTHUS. Hurst’s Monarch Strain. The finest strain of large flowered Hybrids in existence. Compact habit, fly continual hybridising and re-selec-tion many new colours have been obtained. 1/6 per packet. NICOTIAN A. Crimson Bedder. This is one of our latest novelties of proved worth. Of dwarf and pyramidal habit, about 15 inches. Flowers Rich Carmine, making a splendid effect in the mass. Gd per. packet. MARIGOLD—Giant Tree French. Height—6 to 8 feet. Gd per packet. DIANTHUS—Sweet Wivelsfield. Few new annuals have created such a sensation as these Sweet Wivelsfield Dianthus. They represent a cross between Dianthus Allwoodii and Dianthus Barbatus—the latter commonly known as Sweet William. The ground habit of the plants is not unlike Sweet William, but the flowers are much larger, and they include a much wider range of colour. Can be treated as annual or biennial. 1/- per packet. POLYA NTH A MULTIFLORA. Fairy Roses. A remarkable race of Miniature Roses, the plants commencing to bloom when about 3 months old. Charming for small beds or borders, and equally suitable for pots, being literally covered with bunches of double and semidouble Pale Pink flowers.
