THE WEATHER.
FINE AND CALM TO-DAY. The strong north-easterly wind which haj prevailed in Ashburton for several days lulled last evening and only a light north-easterly breeze blew to-day. The sun shone in a clear sky all day and l conditions were very pleasant. The barometric pressure at 9 o’clock this morning Avas 29.44 inches, compared Avith 29.74 inches yesterday morning. Extremes of shade temperature recorSed at fme Domain Aveather station yesterday arid last night Avere 58 degrees and 41 degrees, while the figures on Sunday were 59.6 degrees and 45 degrees.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued .the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: An extensive depression covers New Zealand, the barometers being loav hut rather uniform over the Dominion and higher all about it. Over Eastern Australia there lias been a. considerable rise of pressure The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Moderate but freshening southerly winds. Weather: Unsettled and cold, with scattered rain. Seas: Rough.
