WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT. THE SECTION WINNERS. (Per Press Association). DANNEVIRKE, August 28. The weather was very wet this afternoon when sectional play in the New Zealand ladies’ hockey tournament was completed on heavy, slippery grounds, the games being played in continuous rain. Results:— Section A. Canterbury 2, Southland 1. Akitio 5, Wairarapa B 4. Auckland 4, Ruahine B 2. Section winners Canterbury 10 points. Section B. Ashburton 2, Wanganui 1. Ruahine A 4, Feilding 1. Otago 10, Wellington 0. Section winners—Otago 10 points. Section C. Eastern 7, Wairarapa 0. Bush 2, Taranaki 1. Marlborough 3, Manawatu 1. Section winners—Eastern, 9 points. Southland lodged a protest in the Canterbury match owing to extra time played in the first spell, during which Canterbury shot the first goal. After hearing evidence the committee agreed that the testimony as to time was so indefinite that the decision of the referees must stand. The games were chiefly notable for the easy victories of Otago over Wellington and Eastern over Wairarapa A, while Canterbury ousted Southland after a’ keen fight ensuring the K cup returning to the south with either Eastern ''(holders), Otago or Canterbury. , Canterbury and Southland hitherto unbeaten in Section A, played an even game in a quagmire, and the 'former may be considered lucky to have won. The losers having a territorial advantage but being unable to finish off movements. Canterbury scored a goal in each half, Miss V. McNabb being responsible for both. Miss L. Heaps scored for Southland two minutes before time sounded.

Wellington slumped badly against Otago, being completely outclassed; the score being a true indication of the fortunes of the game. The winners’ scores were Misses R. Hunt (2), G. Vidal (2), L. Vidal (2), A. Mackie (2), R. Kreft, and M. Scott.

Eastern notched an easy victory against Wairarapa A, to win sectional honours. Eastern did the bulk of the attacking and led by 4 to nil at halftime. The scorers were Misses K. Bond (2), Reed and Mclntyre. The spell was very one-sided. In the second half goals were scored for the winners by Misses Reid (2), and Bond.
