LINDSAY GORDON
MEMORIAL IN THE ABBEY. APPROVAL BY AUTHORITIES. PORTRAIT IN BAS-RELIEF. (United Press Association—Copyright). (Received This Day, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, August 4. The Dean and Chapter have consented to tho erection in Westminster Abbey of a memorial to Adam Lindsay Gordon, the Australian poet. Though Mr J. A. Lyons (Prime Minister of Australia) has not indicated his decision, the desire is expressed here that the bas relief portrait of Lindsay Gordon should be executed by Lady Scott. Lady Scott was the wife of Captain Robert Falcon Scott, the explorer, who perished on his way back from the South Pole on January 18, 1912. The King conferred a knighthood posthumously upon Captain Scott. The statue of Scott, which stands beside the River Avon in Christchurch, was modelled by Lady Scott, whose sculptures are highly thought of in England.
