The Hon. J. A. Hannan, M.L.C., was a passenger for the south on the express train this morning.
A London cablegram states that the late Mr Justice MeCardie left an estate valued at £5272.
Mr C. G. M. Bcyc-e, of Christchurch, and formerly of Ashburton, has been elected president of the Christchurch branch of Nelson College Old Boys' Association.
The final scrutiny and count of ballot paper in the election tc fill three vacancies for producers' representatives on the Dairy Board confirms the election of Messrs Agar, Green and Luke (says a Press Association message from Wellington).
At a meeting of the Ashburton County Council this week, the chairman (Mr J. Moore) extended the congratulations of members to Mr W. G. Gallagher upon his election as chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board. Mr Moore referred to Mr Gallagher's excellent record in local body work. He had occupied the chair of the Ashburton County Council, was chairman of the Ashburton Hospital Board and now was chairman of a ■third very important body. Replying, Mr Gallagher expressed appreciation of the honour that had been bestowed not only on himself, but also on the County "he represented.
