BITTEN ON FACE.
ALSATIAN INJURES SPECTATOR.
INCIDENT AT WINTER SHOW.
When an Alsatian dog jumped up at her at the Ashburton Fanciers' Society's Winter Show, Miss M. Madden, of Ashburton, received painful injuries to the face which necessitated the insertion of several stitches. The accident occurred when Miss Madden approached to pat the dog, which was on a leash. Her spectacles were broken and she received two gashes on her cheek, as well as a cut over the right eye. The broken glasses caused several other scratches on various parts of her face. It appeared that the big gashes had been inflicted by the dog's claws or teeth, and these, were fairly deep. Miss Madden, was attended by Dr. G. I. Miller, who inserted a number of stitches.
These dogs have a reputation for treachery, and when Miss Madden had been patting it a short time previous to the accident this particular dog appeared to be quite friendly. Notices were put up on the stalls where the Alsatians were housed to keep well away, and most of those who visited the Show gave the stalls a wide berth. It is stated that the same dog jumned at two other people during the Show, but both these escaped injury. The dog was well chained up when in its stall, but apparently made the jumps when in the judge's ring.
