The Hawltesbury River was rising so rapidly last night that the town of Windsor was expected to he. isolated by morning. Tho rain has now ceased, however, and possibly the river may subside. Thousands of acres of land are already submerged. The Windsor-Sydney road is under water and has been closed to traffic. Fine weather removed fears of serious floods in the far northern rivers, but the Weather Bureau has- issued a warning that floods are to he expected in the South Coast rivers. All creeks in the Liverpool district overflowed yesterday. The bridges became impassable, isolating farmers. Many low-lying areas in Sydney and suburbs were under water yesterday. Many houses at Bankstown were flooded, the water in the main streets being several feet deep. The Canterbury Park racecourse was flooded to a depth of two feet. Much damage was done in market gardens. - RACECOURSE A SHEET OF WATER SYDNEY, April 6. There has been extensive flooding in the Hawkesbury River catchment area, south of Sydney. The main southern road near St. Mary’s is four feet under water. The Georges River is over its banks, and thousands of acres of low-lying land are submerged. Nearly ten inches of rain have fallen in the middle and north coast areas since Monday. The rivers there are overflowing. The Warwick Farm Bacecourse, where races are to be held on Saturday, including the important Chipping Norton Stakes, is now a vast sheet of water.
