GOLF.
THE METHVEN CLUB. The annual meeting of the Methven Golf Club was held the other evening, Mr G. Waddington presiding over a good attendance. The report showed that the club had enjoyed a successful season, and the balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £l6 14s Sd. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr G. Waddington: vicepresident, Mr J. Campbell; club captain, Mr P. Cookson; vice-captain, Mr A. ID. Norris; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Fryer: committee, Messrs A. White, G. Cookson, G. Petrie and A. iG. Foreman. The opening daj* was fixed for Saturday, April 8. THE RAKAIA CLUB. SEVENTH ANNUAL MEETING The seventh annual meeting of the Rakaia Golf Club was held in the library on Wednesday evening, Mr J. Langley presiding over a good attendance. The president's report showed that the season had been a very successful one. The standard of play had been very good and members had taken part in many competitions throughout Canterbury, the Bakaia team winning the teams' match at the Ashburton tournament. The thanks of the club were due to donors of trophies and others who had helped to make the season a success. The balance-sheet showed receipts of £157 15s 3d and expenditure of £79 10s 6d, leaving a credit balance of £7B 4s 9d. The following officers were elected: — Patrons, Mr J. Connolly, M.P., and Mr L. White; president, Mr L. O. Oakley; 'vice-president, Mr C, O. Holmes: captain, Mr H. A. Harrison; yice-captain, Mr W. L. Harrison; auditor, Mr C. Nelson; delegate to centre, Mr J. E. Donald; committee, Messrs L. Cordner, A. G. Holmes, H. Wilkinson, C. C. Holmes, A. Richards, W, L. Harrison ; match committee and handicappers, Messrs J. S. Connolly, P. Hanrahan, G. S. Hardy and L. Cbrdn<.?r; grounds committee, Messrs' P. J. Hanrahan, L. Cordner, L. 0. Oakley, G. S. Hardy, J. S. Connolly, A. G. Holmes, J. Langley ; bank authorities, Messrs L. O t Oakley and L. Cordner; secretary, Mr L. Cordner. A motion of sympathy with Mr G. S. Hardy in his illness was carried. It was decided to open the season on Saturday, April 8. It was reported that the ladies' club had given £l2 towards the clubhouse funds, and a vote of thanks was passed to the ladies.
